For those who slice, golf can certainly feel like an uphill battle. Ironically, that same hill can help to eliminate the shameful banana ball! Most slicers have a downswing that travels outside, then down and across the ball in a steep, chopping motion. The Uphill Battle drill is a quick way to find a shallower approach to the ball. And the drill isn’t really a battle—it’s actually quite easy!
Find a hill or a slope that elevates the ball at least a few inches above your feet. From your Slice-Free Golf address position, take a few practice swings and feel how the elevated ground requires your swing to be flatter or more around your body. This flatter or shallower path into the ball is ideal for a powerful draw swing. Feel the club head rotate naturally as you take what will feel more like a baseball swing around a stable center.
If possible, hit some balls from this position. Enjoy the draw, and realize how easy it is to swing under the foam when the ball is above your feet. Keep that same feeling as you head back to the level teeing ground!

Brian,
Saw you at the golf show in White Plains this weekend. Excellent prewsentation again. Thanks for answering my question about the grip. One other question I had was on ball position on a lie facing up or down a hill. As if I sere hitting to a green up or down a hill. Common sense says move the ball back on down hill lies or forward on up hill lies. Does the same hold true when trying to hit a draw from these positions?
Thanks again for your help!
Sincerely,
Mark
Mark,
Thanks for the comment, and I’m glad you enjoyed the show!
Most golfers are less likely to shift their weight to the front side on an uphill lie…(it’s hard to fight gravity), so try bringing the ball back a bit. This will help you to hit the ball “from the inside” more naturally. On downhill lies, the ball can be a touch forward. Remember, choose the proper loft, and “swing with the slope”!!
